Environment
We can well imagine that you are almost stressed about making a choice. There is so much to visit, experience and do in the area around camping Viareggo. Feel free to ask the reception staff for advice, because they will be happy to help you.
To explore the area at your leisure, you could get on your bike. There are countless beautiful routes. The Komoot website has quite a few cycling routes in the area around camping Viareggio.
Lucca, 27 kilometres from the campsite, you could go there by bike, has a rich history. The charming town (it has approximately 90,000 inhabitants) is completely walled. There is a market every day in the former Santa Maria del Carmine church, on the square of the same name. From early in the morning (7:00) until about one in the afternoon. After the afternoon rest, the market starts again at 16:00 until 19:30. In the summer there is no market on Saturday afternoon. Stroll through the beautiful streets and sit down on one of the many terraces. The Piazza dell’Anfiteatro is a beautiful, well-known location and therefore a bit more expensive. Lucca has plenty of other squares and streets where you can enjoy Tuscan life on a terrace.
Pisa is 20 kilometers from the campsite and that can be an advantage if you want to avoid crowds. We cannot guarantee that you will have the leaning tower to yourself if you come very early or later in the day. But it will certainly help.
Paradise, is what composer Puccini is said to have exclaimed when he first saw the Lago di Massaciuccoli. This villa where Puccini lived is now a small museum (Museo Villa Puccini). Puccini wrote La Bohème, Madame Butterfly and the opera Tosca here. Puccini’s Villa is less than 7 kilometers from the campsite.
Don’t forget the town of Viareggio itself. The center with a vibrant nightlife is definitely worth a visit.
